US Army PFC Gary Lee Russell was from Rome, NY. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Russell. He had ten brothers, Donald, William, Robert, Francis, Roger, Richard, Ricky, Michael, Joseph and Terry and two sisters, Diane and Linda.

US Army PFC Gary Lee Russell was reported missing during a combat mission on June 3, 1968. His family was notified. It was not until June 10th that the family found out he had been killed in action.

PFC Russell served with the 9th Infantry Division. He is buried in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Rome, NY. Rest in peace, Soldier, you died a hero. Freedom Park honors you.
