US Army Sgt. Michael Uvanni

 

 

The History

Sgt. Michael Uvanni was killed in action in Samarra, Iraq from a sniper wound to his torso on October 1, 2004. He was 27 years old.

 

 

The Family

Sgt. Michael Uvanni was from Rome, NY.  He was the only child of Kevin and Janet Boncella Uvanni.  He was a 1996 graduate of Rome Free Academy.

 

 

More Story

Sgt. Uvanni joined the Marine Corps in December of 1996 and served as mortar man until December 2003.  In January 2004 he joined the New York Army National Guard’s 2nd Battalion 108th Infantry where he again served as mortar man.  He loved his country and wanted to be part of making a difference in the world.

Sgt. Michael Uvanni is buried in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Rome, NY.  Freedom Park will never forget you Sgt. Uvanni, you served your country with courage and honor.
