USMC Cpl John Michael Sroka, Jr. was from Clark Mills, NY. He was the son of John and Myrtle Smith Sroka. He had two brothers, Stephen and Stanley and four sisters, Lila, Sally Ann, Carolyn and Lisa.

Cpl Sroka was a 1967 graduate of Clinton Central School. While in school he was the Vice President of the Future Farmers of America. He was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, Clark Mills.

Cpl John Michael Sroka Jr. enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1967. He was on his second tour of duty in Vietnam when he was killed by the enemy. In February, he suffered wounds in an attack and retuned home in March. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his injuries. In April he returned to Vietnam for a six month tour. He served with the Third Battalion, Engineer Division.
