The History

USMC PFC Thomas Robert Ames died of illness on the USS Iwo Jima near Vietnam on June 29, 1965.  He was 20 years old.

The Family

USMC PFC Thomas Robert Ames was from Oriskany Falls, NY.  He was the son of Lawrence and Mary Ames.  He had one brother, Lawrence and three sisters, Mrs. Louise Chesebro, Mrs. Janet Harris and Patricia Ames.  He also had four half brothers, Gene Marin and Peter, Ronald and Bernard Furness.

PFC Ames was a member of the Oriskany Falls Rod and Gun Club.  He was involved in Scouting and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.  He was employed by Ray Company in Utica until he enlisted in the Marines in 1964.
